This is funny that I saw this... Me and the owner of our shop were just talking about this last night and may end up doing it to both our drag cars so we can run the exhaust out the front bumper.

I personally don't think that it is needed unless you autox and even then, I'm not sure it would be needed. I have the AMS oil pan in my drag car so I have the extra oil which also helps the oil stay at a lower operating temp. The evo has never had a cooling problem and with Synthetic oil, you can raise the temp much higher without oil break down. I think it is fine to daily drive too. There are a few evo shops that don't run the oil coolers and like Dan already stated, some pay A LOT of money to have an oil cooler.

I think we are going to delete them and see what happens

Mikey

On a street car the oil never gets hot enough that it would begin to break down and require to be cooled by the cooler.

Mitsubishi put it there because the car was designed as a street legal race car, but if you just drive it on the street and even drag race it you'll be fine.
You sir FAIL at giving good advice here

I hate these threads because they are full of stupid. Everybody drives their car different. Drag cars can take cooler off. Kinda dumb not to. Street cars should not only keep them, most should be considering larger than stock. But thats only if you understand the importance of maintaining proper oil temperature.

Seeing that stm sells kit for 239. I'm going to buy one and run it. Not worth the risk. I drive my cars hard. The oil cooler will only help not hurt. Just what I think from researching and starting this thread few days ago.

Ice formed on the grill infront of the intake area of the oil cooler, blocking the air flow, that is why it increased in temp..... This is a very typical thing in winter weather testing for OEMs.....as you are correct ice itself should not be able to form on the cooler because the cooler could never get below freezing. Hope that clears up your confusion...and normally when it is already that cold, the air flow has a wind chill factor as you drive 50+mph... which should be colder than most ice temps

anyways I agree this thread is stupid, vehicles that don't have an external oil cooler still have an coolant/oil cooler.... so unless anyone has data of their oil temps in 100 degree heat not going over ~120C this is pointless IMO
