Holy ****!!! I just put 15-30 Performance Engine Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my EVO. Is this bad? Its the only one that has the highest viscosity and it comes with a read label.

Yeah, as much as i'd like to say you'd be fine with the 15w-50, might not be a bad idea to change it to something a bit thinner.

The borderline pumping temp is around -35C, but.. best to get some good pressures built up in the turbo instead of pushing molasses around.

During the cold season, it might even be advisable to try a high quality 0w or 5w oil. I would say try the 0w-40 Mobil 1. It has a little bit of a long-term thickening problem, but in the cold weather the 0w will help out.

Although hard to find, the German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 has some really good numbers. Look for this at Autozone-- just make sure to check the back for the "Made in Germany" label. Otherwise, it's the 'not-so-great' Group III American stuff.

As far as horsepower goes, Mobil 1 0/40 made more power than anything Shell threw our way +3, & +7 hp over quaker state syn. Havent tested castrol or ?. When we tested mobil1 against royal purple in the mid 90's, there was no real difference, just stayed with mobil because of reliability & oil consistency. Take this with a grain of salt, I am sure somebody else has experienced different dyno results. We run a lot higher oil temps than normally run on street cars, so 5/30 is plenty safe, however I have 0/40 in my car. On the dyno 0/30 made the same power as 0/40, except 0/40 shown less wear on several internal components after race events & endurance simulations.

Hmm... I missed this. When did it change? This will very much make me reconsider using Mobile 1 on my next oil change. Any pointers to this info would be appreciated.

No i think you are wrong, you have no prof of any kind. Mobil 1 is fully synthetic they just cant lie like that. Castrol is not fully synthetic thats why it is syntec. I dunno if i am wrong but i dunno if you can prof your info as well.

Yeahhh... Mobil 1 is still synthetic. In fact, it's even more synthetic now than it was before. In previous versions it was '100% synthetic, exclusive of additive carrier oil'. That isn't the case now.

ExxonMobil has developed an additive package which is fully miscible in the PAO base oil. No need for the 1-5% mineral oil any more.

I think you're running on hype and misinformation.

I run 0-40 Mobil One year round (on the EVO), I also change my oil and oil filter every 1500 miles. Call me crazy but I have always dones this on all of my cars. My 944 turbo has 220,000 miles on it, rebuilt it a year ago, the crank and rod bearings where perfect (replaced them anyway). I have been using Mobil One for years on all of my customers street and race engines with great results. No I don't have any analysis but I have years of trouble free results. Mobil One for me is the only choice.

Are u supposed to run synthetic oil during break in. This was confusing cause I picked up my evo w/ 1 mile on it. When I asked about oil changes, they told me to use synthietic oil. I use mobil 1 10-30 year round. I was just wondering why Mitsubishi would put full synithetic oil in the car from the factory? Isnt that bad for the break in?

Evo engines are already broken in from the factory. i have been told that many times and i found it on the web as well. all high performance cars like Vipers, vetts and so on come with Mobil1 factory field from day 1.

You have an URL or link to those articles? I would hope it be common practice to fire the engines up in the factory, but with modern production techniques and the greater use of robot construction, the manufacturers may think it is "good enough without a leakdown".
