Compression test
Update: ok I changed my head gasket. Before putting the head back on the car I put ATF in the cylinders to see if the rings were bad. They held great. So it's not my rings nor the head gasket. After looking over the gasket. I put the head back on and my compression tested again and the test read the same. So I am guessing that my valves are bent or something.
What do you all think? Has any one had this problem before?
I did a compression test on my car. Was trying to find why my catch can was smoky a little. My numbers from the compression test where. 190, 120, 120, 190. I did notice that when I was checking my car to see if their was smoke coming out the rear of the car (no white smoke or anything) the temp gauge did go up. But then I moved my car forward and the temps went down. Now if my head gasket is blown would that cause my Buschur catch to smoke a little at the breather filter on top of it? On a 2.4 build would I use a 2.4 oem head gasket from what year and model car?

I checked that. And their isn't anything like that. If the head gasket is blown between 2 and 3 I don't think there is a water jacket in-between them two. So I am guessing that is why their is no oil in my radiator?
Pour a capfull of oil into the low cyls and do the compression test in those cyls again. If it doesn't go up then valves or headgasket leaking. If it goes up then piston rings leaking

Weird if I have a blown head gasket the only smoke I see is coming out of the catch can and not out the exhaust. Checked the antifreeze no oil in it. Also checked my oil dip stick no milky oil ether. I am kind baffled. Oh yeah the smoke is coming out the catch can right at a cold start up. Did it this morning when the motor was cold.
I just went out and took a look at an Evo block I have laying around and it is definitely possible for the HG to fail between cylinders and not affect coolant or oil passages. That sounds to me like it's probably exactly what happened.

When does your car smoke? How many miles on the engine?
FWIW, my Evo's catch can smokes at start-up, once it warms up 90% of it disappears. After the engine was broken in it smokes a lot less. I barely notice it anymore.

I don't even think I have 5k on the motor probley less than that. Sence I got the car back it sits in my garage and only take it out on weekends and a drive at night when it is cool out. As for letting it warm up it still smokes the same. It just started doing this after I logged my car to see if everything was going ok with the car. Before that a month ago I went to the track and did 12 passes and their was no problems. Drove my car some more every weekend deal or at night for a nightly drive. But just last week I did a few pulls and logged my car. The boost did spike high not for what it was tuned for. That is what is making me think that my head gasket is blown.

Well the block I looked at was an original Evo block, incidentally it also has a huge hole in the side of it. However,I just built a 2.4 myself. The deck surface is the same in that respect. so it's still possible that that is your issue. A leak down test could confirm that it isn't a valve issue, but you'd have to take the head off either way.

It didn't go up. How would I tell if it is valves or head gasket now? A leak down test? How do I get that cap full of oil out of there? Lol

It will burn off as soon as you start it. You might see some blue smoke from the exhaust so dont get alarmed. Yes a leak down test will tell you if a valve is leaking. You will have to do it in a quiet environment to hear the air escaping. Listen and feel exhaust pipe for air. Same with intake. Easier if you take air filter off. Leak down should be at the very max 20%. Under 10% is ideal though. Let us know your results
