frozen starter or stuck solonoid?
my starter wouldnt budge today when i went to start up my car. the battery tested fine, but when i went to bump the starter only the smell of burnt electronics came from it. Now the crappy part. i tried popping the clutch to get my car home, only to find it just ground the starter to sh** and made it smoke. so i removed the starter where it was t and am waiting to pick one up tomorrow. anybody else had this happen? any other brands of starters good for the money?
i had that happen on my 8 a while back. i had done some rally playing around in it and when i pulled the starter off i found a lot of dirt rocks etc. in it i shook it out and sprayed some white lithium grease in there and it worked fine until i sold it. no issues on current evo though
unfortunately, when i popped the clutch it whined and made a cloud of magic smoke, then it threw an engine light. i haven't checked my cel yet. i think spraying lithium grease is out of the question
the wheel doesn't even turn freely, def. binded..... i had a few offs last week at the track, but nothing really harsh or with big drops, are the starters just sensitive to shock?
i am assuming i go with a factory starter, its the plan for now, despite the huge cost.

i so dumb! next time i know to just let it be and remove the starter on the spot to possibly get it repaired or cleaned. lesson learned is dont move the car unless in neutrl when the starter only bumps and buzzes.
hopefully the cel is just for the starter and my work necessary is at least easy. lol tooka whole 5 mins to get the starter out before i got home and posted this thread. easy at least
thats me trying to pull some positive out of this.
