Cannot put car into gear! HELP

hey guys. so last week i got my clutch replaced on my evo 8 along with the flywheel. when i got it back the clutch grabbed super low and the car was extremely hard to put into gear. I gave it two days to see if it would warm up but nothing happened.

So i searched the forums about why my car might not be going in to gear and saw that i should raise the clutch pedal, which i did yesterday, but still when i turned my car on in the cold last night i couldnt put it into reverse to back out of my parking spot. I had to have someone push me out of my spot and then turned the car off and started it in first. when the car is on I cant put it in gear at all. If i try to force it into first or reverse it wont go into first (its like i havent put the clutch in at all) but the car will start to roll forward or backwards very slightly.

I dont know what the problem could be but the past two nights ive got stuck beecause i cant put it into revers. someone please tell me you have a solution to my problem hahah

thanks

adjust your clutch pedal. sounds exactly like what you're saying; clutch isn't disengaging

That or clutch or hydraulics are broken.

i did adjust it. i raised it a bit but its still the same. I just realized this last night while driving, when im driving i can easily just push my car out of gear into neutral without putting in the clutch at all. i was thinking it might be the trasmission fluid? because i havent put new tranny fluid in the car since i bought it about 20k miles ago. I looked to find the tranny fluid cap but dont see it? anyone know where it might be? it should be right on the left of the engine if im not mistaken

You can push any car out of gear without the clutch; you can also get almost any car now-days into gear without the clutch provided the transmission and engine rpms are the same

The transmission fill and drain plugs are on the transmission on the drivers side of the car

Put the car in first gear, parking brake off, clutch in and get into your 2-step. The car shouldn't move at all because the clutch should be fully engaged. if your car is rolling forward, however slowly, your clutch isn't disengaging all the way and needs to be adjusted. also make sure you're doing this on flat ground

I just had this exact same problem after installing a new exedy twin sd clutch. In my case it turns out some of this clutches need to have the center plate (that separates the two discs) polished at some points so it doesn´t drag.

No matter how I adjusted the clutch pedal, still the clutch would drag and be very hard to get into gear and impossible to get reverse in. Everything else seemed to be fine, so I just drove for like 200 miles (city driving, lots of shifting) and things started improving. Did some launches and now it is perfect for every gear. You can confirm it is dragging by pressing the clutch in while going say at 40 - 50 mph and the rpm´s should drop to normal idle rpm´s, if they stay higher then the clutch is dragging. Slightly reving the engine will help getting first and reverse in.

Of course proper pedal adjustment was important after my clutch stopped dragging, but it would not make a notiaceable difference for the first 80 miles or so I would say.

Good luck,

Ricardo

thanks. i actually found the trasmission fluid fill and drain and replaced it. shifting was the same for the first 5 miles then went to super smooth for a while. i drove alot today and by the time i drove about 40 miles, it started to get notchy again while i was shifting. im going to raise my clutch pedal some more and see if that fixes the clutch not disengaging. if it doesnt i guess i'll try to polish the center plates

so i raised my clutch pedal...same problem. when im going into first it grinds alot of the time and if i put it in first and let off the brake (but keep the clutch depressed) the car will start to move forward so i know the clutch isnt disengaging all the way. how can i fix it so that the clutch will disengage properly

Have someone push the clutch while you are watching the slave cylinder and see if its barely moving if so....

Bleed the system.
