Shepard stage three transfer case

Im looking to purchase a evo 9 and one of the evos i saw has a built t-case from shep trans. The stage 3 with quaife lsd. He claims the case makes noise but not a death wine sound something else, but its normal because thsts how a built transfer case is. I contacted the owner before him who had the t case built and he said it never made a sound that he was aware of. So im wondering if the t-case is on its way out despite being built or is it indeed noisy drivetrain and the previous owner just ignorned it. The new owner only had the car for 2 months and put maybe 500 miles on it. Is it possible to kill a stage three sheptrans tcase in such a short time?? Those of u that have a shep t case can u verify that it is indeed a noisy item? Most would say this sounds shady and walk away, but i figure if i can get it cheap enough itd be worth my while even if i had to replace the tcase
New owner also stated he changed all fluids. Maybe he put the wrong fluid in the tcase and thats y its making noise now, and its just a matter of flushing the t case out and putting in the correct fluid? I just find it hard to believe that a 3000 dollar built transfercase can be ruined in such a short period of time and with the new owner only putting 500 miles on it
