no one rebuilds stuff anymore?

You probably only need to rebrush it or get a new voltage regulator. That being said i have a parts store alternator in my Evo and it was running fine until i blew the motor up

My experience is that once the wrong part # gets into the parts house computer it never gets fixed.

Never buy one. I was in your shoes, bought three and decided to go Oem. And it worked perfect after the Oem. On the autozone ones it would only get around 12v and go down as the car (alt.) Got hotter. The rectified and all internals in those are reman'd in Mexico usually, so they're never band new.
