Best EBC that doesnt hook up to the ECU?
There's a very old HKS EBC that's discontinued, however, they still pop up on eBay every once in awhile. They're very easy to use and very effective. I know a handful of people that still refuse to run anything else to this day. I can't remember the exact model. Perhaps someone knows the one I'm speaking of.

I have a Blitz sbc id-iii, its very easy to use and works well. It has an autolearn function, dial in the boost you want, do a couple pulls and youre set, it will adjust duty cycle to hold your desired boost regardless of AIT. Manual function(0-100%) takes about 2 seconds to change the duty cycle value. The scramble feature is nice too.
Dont know if they make them anymore but finding a used one probably wouldnt be too hard.

I prefer using an mbc over any ebc. I've used a couple of mbc on my former evos and when switched the mbc, the car was much more responisve. If you must get one, then I would recommend the Greddy profec B spec II.
