Location of Final Drive Gears
I need a class in Evo Drivetrain Design 101. Maybe someone can help.
I am thinking of doing a trade plus cash of my 2004 Evo VIII RS for a low mileage 2006 MR. However, I would like to swap the trannys on the two cars. That is put my RS 5-spd. into the MR and vice versa.
I want to of course keep the same final drive ratio. So, I understand how on a rear wheel drive car the ring and pinion gears are in the rear differential. But, where are the final drive gears located in the Evo? They can't be in the rear diff can they? Are they located in the trannie itself? Help!
If I just swap the two trannies will I still end up with the same final drive ratio? Or is there something else aside from the trannie that I'll need to swap out?
