Pulled the Transmission!
Pulled the Transmission!
Hey so i bought an EVO8 about a month ago. Soon after the clutch was slipping and I had a 5th gear grind.
So I decided to bite the bullet and pull the transmission to get rebuilt and put in a better clutch.

So I bought a clutch masters fx300.
Then I also decided it would be fun to drop the transmission on my own with some help.

Glazed flywheel

Glazed pressure plate

The transmission was brought to FFTEC in Hayward they specialize in Evo 8,9,10 and all DSM 1g ,2g etc
It's having a complete rebuild with upgraded sychros as well as gears replaced if needed.
What's cool is that they use the same rebuild I'm getting on their 9 second beast.
Overall it's alot of money for being 19 but I rather have the power train be solid before I start swapping turbos.
After getting it out I'm really proud of myself, the most I've done is bolt ons. It took me and my friend about 5 hours to do the whole thing on jackstands and using regular tools..
ETA is two weeks on the rebuild mainly depending on the status of the gears.
I also bought a new Clutch fork, Clutch fork shaft, Springs and those little felt washers.
Seeming like a good time I bought a Powerflex Motor Mount insert for that PITA transfer Case mount ans Agency Power Shifter bushings.
ALSO:
I was very worried about this becuase of the struggles some people have dealt with to remove the output shaft from the transfer case.
The bolts from the oem downpipe hangars fit perfectly into the out put shaft. We threaded that bolt and twister a metal coat hangar around the bolt and tied the other end to a 3 pound sledge hammer. About 5 pulls and it was out.

This brings back memories. I was 19 the first time I pulled an evo trans out. It was an experience that ended up giving me the confidence to do all kinds of cool stuff since then. Good for you.
Haha I think I would be up for it, as long as you have a second hand it can be done.
I met Sean today at fftec, I cant wait till I start putting some parts on this thing and to finally get it tuned over there.
Thanks, I feel that after this everything will be a bit easier

I had the same exact story bought an '05 evo viii and the clutch was slipping with a 5th gear grind. Wasn't my first evo clutch job though. Pulled my first motor/tranny out of my 1st gen awd dsm at 17 been addicted to the 4g63 platform ever since lol. Btw make sure u red locktite all the flywheel/ pressure plate bolts and torque them down to specs.
My clutch blew so I didn't have a choice but since I already had the 5th gear synchro grinds I decided to have it rebuilt while it was out. Not something you want to do any more than you have to. It's expensive but best to do it all at once.
