Rpm???

Im am new to the Evo and just wondering is it normal for the Evo to rev at around 2700-3000rpm in 5th gear while doing 65mph? Normal, or something wrong?

3000 rpm in 5th should be 70 - 75 mph. Any sudden jumps in rpm, as registered by the tach, indicates the clutch is slipping. The clutch usually slips first in high gear.

Its not the clutch. Ive experienced slipping clutches before plus its only supposed to have 10k miles on it with a resurfaced flywheel. Is it possible that the tune on the car could have something to do with it. I just bought the car a month ago and havent had a chance to get the tune looked at.

what do you mean 'normal for the Evo to rev at around 2700-3000rpm in 5th gear while doing 65mph'

if you're doing 65mph, it should be a constant RPM (say, 2700), not a range of 2700-3000. that'd be like a 10mph difference in speed. if it's not constant, something is slipping (i.e. clutch)

There are a zilllion formulas on the web for calculating rpm--use one of those to get the number you need. Its not a range.

5spd 5th gear at 3k is 70mph on the dot, so yea 2700 might be about 65mph. Nothing wrong with ur car

i was not sure of the exact rpm, was just trying to give an idea so that i could get the help i needed. The rpms dont jump they stay constant. It just seemed high to me. Thanks for the quick replies everyone, glad to hear that there is nothing wrong. learn something new everyday.
