so car has been running great lately, didnt drive it for a day or two and came back started it up idle is perfect. go to get into boost a little and there is a terribly loud whine and i cant boost over 2lb... thought it was a boost leak so did a test and found a huge hole in the uicp so i fixed that but it is still doing the same thing, does not whine in neutral rolling but gets increasingly louder with acceleration.. heres a vid from my phone so i apologize for the quality

sounds like maybe turbo with blown blades maybe. Im saying maybe cause my friends evo does this but is fine cause he gets full boost. If your car is bearly boosting and sounds like that it maybe blown turbo blades.
I say this cause its what happened to a friends mr2 long time ago. He kept driving and blew the motor. The turbine pieces got into the engine and fried it

 

yeah that was my first though, but the blades are fine and there is no shaft play

turbo failure shouldve gotten the upgraded oil line... oo well time for a rebuild, thanks guys

 

Is your red journal or bb? I have a journal red and have never had the upgraded oil line since I got the turbo (over 10k miles on it) and it still runs like a champ. No shaft play at all. It might not be because of the feed line.

 

any news on this. Looking into turbo failures as of late for possible reasons behind it. As I don't know exactly why mine failed.

 

^I was just reading your thread, was indeed a blown turbo... Sent off to FP and upgraded to a Black and she's back up and running already

Prob another hole somewhere. Sounds like that when the air is whistling through a hole in an ic pipe. A bolt wore a hole in one of mine and it's was the same exact noise. Hole sealed no whine

 

thats exactly what i thought it was cuz a bolt feel out on my UICP where it was tapped for meth but sealed it and continued to make noise but it was later confirmed that it was a blown turbo
