Replacing one piston?

Replacing one piston?
One of my pistons is chipped. Should I be ok replacing this one or should I replace them all? I am going to re-ring all the pistons. I did look at the cyclender walls of the one chipped one and it is fine. I just want to know if I can get away with just re placing that one.
On a norther note( this is weird) I did a leak down test to my car and it seems that cyclender 1 and 4 are fine but when I did 2 and 3 I have probs. Bent intake valve in cyclender 2 and messed up rings in cyclender 3. But yet the cyclender walls in 3 are fine. And there is no chip on the piston in cyclender 2. Is it posable that cyclender 3 rings could of cupped? Some told me it could do that and not do any damage to the cyclender walls.
Thanks for looking at my post and the help people. That's why I always on this site. Awesome feed back and great people.

I chipped one piston and said F it and built the whole damn thing. Manley pistons and rods. The stock internals are junk. Pull the motor, build it or drop it off at a machine shop. Couldn't be happier.

ive seen people change one piston before and never had any problems. But in your case your have alot more things wrong then one piston needing to be changed. Build the car right.
send the head out to be done, and buy new bearings, pistons and rods when you have the funds. The car will cost you alot more in the long run if you just "slap" it back together....

this is your lr2.4?
assuming you dont have a ton of miles on the motor:
Get two pistons, get the weight right so you have a balanced set, re-ring all 4 and put in some rod bearings while your at it.
clean everything out really well.,, inspect your turbine wheel, yada yada, be thorough.

Yes it is my 2.4. With very low miles on it. I don't even think I have 5k miles on it. I am going to rebuild the head for sure. I already have valve springs and retainers in it I need to get some good valves. The pistons are good other than one. Yes I am going to re-ring them and clean the pistons. Also put new rod bearings. Do I or should I do the crank bearings also? I did call up Manley and they said I could buy just one piston. Why would I need to my 2 ?

I would measure the bore just to be extra safe that you are getting the right sized piston and rings.
[offtopic] when you purchase a piston and ring set, are the rings that come with the pistons sized correctly or would you have a machine shop double check and file them to size if needed?[/offtopic]

it was for the OP.. for you though.. depends on piston brand. some manufacturers gap rings ok already and dont need shaved (manley).. either way you need to check regardless to know what is going on.. doesn't take more then 30 seconds with a feeler gauge.. i would adjust the gap based on your power level and usage for the engine.
