6k clutch dump- am i screwed?
one day i was feeling super cool so i did exactly what my title says. the previous owner of my car installed a new clutch... I cannot remember for the life what he said the name was.. but it has about 20k miles on it. What is the easiest way to tell if my clutch is on the outs? I've only done one of these hard dumps and after a typical day of driving hard, i do not smell the notorious metallic hotness that is clutch, so I figure that i am okay. I'd like to hear about other experiences with clutches [starting-to-go-badness]
Thanks
Thanks
No you're not screwed. I wouldn't go around clutch dumping at 6k all day but you're probably ok. Clutch won't really give any warning signs when its going out, will start slipping when its really gone. You're probably just fine.
If your clutch is not slipping then its probably fine. It's way too hard to tell though how much abuse your clutch can take unless you know exactly what kind it is. Is the disc a regular organic, kevlar, ceremetalic??? Single disc, twin disc??? One bad launch can quickly kill a stock clutch. Others can survive numerous bad launches. It all depends. To know for sure how much life is on it, you'd have to measure the disc thickness and check the pressure plate and flywheel.

My did not slip at all. Shifted through gears perfect and would grab like new. I never dumped it and never had a problem until one day.
The day I finally parked the car, I started it and put the clutch in. Fell all the way to floor with a grinding noise and sprung back with zero resistance. Went back to it a few hour and the clutch went in with grinding noise but the clutch engaged this time around.
The shop sent me this photo of my clutch.

if you slip the clutch to long depending on the clutch i know it will slip, i have a exedy twin hd and i rode it out a lil bit longer than i should have on the launch and heated it up it slipped a lil bit let me remind you it is brand new lol. easiest way to tell a clutch going out is what tim858151 said
Thank you all for your replies. I put the car in 5th and did a wot. Everything is fine. This forum rocks. Thanks for all of your replies, I did not expect real, untrolling replies to my post like I have experienced so many times before on turbobricks forum and some other very high profile sites. I will certainly be using this site as a tool, where most other discussion boards are swarming with off topic, kiddie comments.

+1000!!
also if you're dumping the clutch on 6k launches the clutch itself would be the least of my worries. Stop doing it lol.
