Yea it should be able to swing in and out like that. Doesn't mean the axle is not locked in. Try to hold the rotor to give some slack on the axle, and see if you can pull and push it into the diff. If you can, its not locked. Worst case is the C clip broke and you need to put in a new one. But that means a forced t-case fluid change as well.

If someone hasn't posted one by this evening, I'll post a picture. I've got my transmission out right now, but I'm stuck at work for another 6.5 hours. Off the top of my head, it's on the shaft that comes out of the transfer case (passenger side). The axle has a female end that clicks onto the clip of the male shaft (sticking out of the transfer case).

Thats the c-clip at the end of the axle. Locks into the front diff.

thanks for the picture. but man, i really have no idea whats causing the vibration now. if the axle is supposed to move around like it does in the video, there shouldnt be a problem with the axle really. its not leaking any fluid...... i have no idea what to look for now..

This happened to me while I was working on my suspension today... How the hell do you pop it back in? Does it has to be aligned in some way? Here is a picture of the front passenger axle popped out but no fluid leaking.

Your bearings came out of the housing. Just push the axle back in to the housing.
If you look at post #19 above, you can see the bearings its a triangle shaped piece that fits into the green colored housing. Just push it back in, it'll only go back in when the bearings are aligned so you'll know when that happens.

Done! Wasn't too bad once I found out what I was actually trying to push back in... It is a triangle shape thing that went back in to the green colored housing. Thanks
