No Start issue Evo IX.

A few weeks back the EVO shut down when i was driving out of no where. I took it on a road trip the weekend before and had no issues until i went to start it a saturday afternoon to give it cleaning.

It would crank but no start. For an hour I checked over everything from fuses to connections with no luck finding what it was. It then started up poofing a big cloud of black smoke and idle'd really rough. It drove fine for a hour but i noticed that my A/F were off and during load it would be at 14.7:1 and while off the throttle it would jump to 21:1 which worried me. On my way home it shut down then wouldn't start back up. Now the fuel pump is not turning on when cranking. Local evo mechanic keep telling me it's the ecu or the 2 main harnesses. Any ideas, it almost feels like i jumped timing somehow.

Mod list.

Built 2.0L
Precision 5857
1250cc inj
Spoolinup COP
Kelford 272 cams
Zeitronix Wideband
Walbro 255lph
walbro secondary inline

Also, there is no signal coming from the Ecu going to the fuel pump.

check these things:
Spark
Mechanical Timing
Fuel
Compression

One of those is missing for the engine to start...

Check to ensure you have spark. Then check the fuel pump. this sounds very much like the other threads where the Walbro fuel pump packed it in, especially with the fuel leaning out at higher rpms

Some steps

check fuel pump fuses
Check for voltage to pump key on engine off, it should prime
Check fuel pump relay if no voltage
check wiring to pump

Pull fuel pump and inspect sock for clogging

Replace fuel pump if it doesnt prime, but has voltage to it. use new stock fuel sock.

No update, local import tuner shop is "looking" at it. They've had it for 5 days and have managed to not do anything with it yet. They have attempted to hook up a computer to read the rom from it but were unable to read anything. My usual mech at the mitsu dealer wasn't able to help at all. They wanted to replace my Ecu and harnesses costing 2 much $. There are no Evo specific tuners within 3 hours and this place is the only option to troubleshoot. Honestly from looking at it the day it broke down I have came to the conclusion that the primary fuel pump took a **** due to really poor gasoline from bp, the shell by me had their pumps go down so I was forced to get other fuel the car wasn't used to.

I'll keep you all updated once this shop gets done diagnosing.

After its all said and done its going to spec ops in Fayetteville for a look over and tune since the previous tuner dicked the dog by not tuning the speed density setup properly.

Sounds like this could be a problem too!

So got word today of what's been going on with the Evo. The cps went bad and upon dissassembly the cps was damaged by the reluctor. Pretty odd that the reluctor wheel loosened up and was able to spin freely.
