Boost Controller suggestions

I will be purchasing a boost controller for my evo

some people advised me on the grimspeed.
they told me that you can limit the torque on the car etc??? if you can, can someone explain me how it works??

or should I get an evc 6 or something??

if the grimspeed is a good choice, i would prefer that since it is way cheaper

the car has a polished head with map springs, map valves, gsc s2 cams, hks cam gears, stock turbo with external wastegate, injectors and aem ems. also converting from maf to map

shooting for 380-400 whp

Why not just get a hallman pro MBC and be done with it?

I've dealt with a bunch of turbo cars over the years, and sometimes the old Keep it simple stupid rule applies.. In this case the Hallman is an excellent choice, the incar kit is a nice option and allows you to make adjustments from time to time if your target boost isnt reached. The electronic controllers add another electronic device to fail, and can be an absolute pain in the ***. The downside to any non electronic controller would be the lack of switching between boost levels quickly.

As far as electronic controllers I have personally used the aem tru boost, turbosmart eboost 1 and 2, greddy profec b spec 2, and nlr ams-1000. And have messed around with the hks evc 5

It sounds like you are lumping boost controllers and electronic boost control solenoids in the same category. They offer some similar functionality, but the ebcs controls boost in conjunction with your ecu. IMO, it provides more features and flexibility. With an ebcs, you set specific boost levels at specific rpm's, and gears. A boost controller is a bit easier to set up, and a bit less flexible. There are differences between a boost controller, electronic boost controller, and an ebcs.

IMO, your best bet is an ebcs like the grimmspeed unit, a jdm map sensor and a retune.

I'm still learning too, so forgive any incorrect info. I welcome corrections.
