Question on 2.1 builds

Why isn't there a lot of 2.1 builds out there? I know of only a few. Are they not good for DD? It is only a 2.0 crank in a 2.4LR block. Right? Still using the long rod that the 2.4 uses and the same piston. What is the 2.0 crank spec? 100mm? And what comes with the 2.4? 94mm or 88mm? I wanted to know some of these questions because I am going to be rebuilding my BR2.4LR. I was thinking about making it a 2.1. My car is my weekend worrier and go to the track sometimes. What are the pros and cons on both the 2.4 and 2.1? Is it only RPM limits? I know the LR2.4 can go to 9k and the LR2.1 can go to 10k.(noted on buschur's web site) But is that the only difference? Will the 2.1 make the turbo spool slower than the 2.4? Any info would be great to know. Thanks

Reducing displacement (2.4L to 2.1L) will reduce spool time and torque, but will increase safe rpm limit. High rpms are required for dedicated drag cars but necessitate more frequent rebuilds. Most people who drive Evo's on the street would prefer the increased spool and torque of a larger displacement motor, letting them run a bigger turbo without as much lag. Buschur has a nice guide about purchasing a motor that explains the best option for what you want. He pretty much suggests a 2.3L if you have a healthy 4g63 block, and a 2.4L if you have a 4g64 block. You already have a 2.4L so it probably just makes sense to fix it up.

Dead on advice.
There's the water pump issue as well as cam timing too.
If you seek rpm, go 2.0

people like the spool and tq of the bigger engines

It is only a 2.0 crank in a 2.4LR block. Right?

yes

Still using the long rod that the 2.4 uses and the same piston.

not exactly...you can use your existing 156mm rod if you use a standard 4g64 piston,if you use your long rod pistons with the raised wrist pin you need 162mm rods

What is the 2.0 crank spec? 100mm? And what comes with the 2.4? 94mm or 88mm?

2.0 uses an 88mm crank 2.4 uses 100mm crank

So the shorter crank allows higher rpms? Ok now I see why that motor can do 10k it makes sence now. And the bigger crank will allow for less rpm. Right?

What would the liters be if a 94mm crank was used?
