Turbo selection ?
If there were only a handful of failures out of a hundred builds then my statement could be taken as negative. My statement is a cold hard fact. As a matter of fact you dont even have to group 93 octane only. over 600whp is just plain unreliable with any gas. Very few people actually get enjoyment from their cars above 600whp. Very few. This board would be ridden with failure threads if everybody actually posted about their high hp failures. Only a few percent actually do. the sadder Truth to the high hp saga is most end up leaving the hobby from it. they spend every available dollar (and worse some max their credit cards out) and they dont plan on failing. they brake thousands of dollars in parts unexpectedly that they cant afford to replace they bail from the hobby with their tail between their legs. only the smart few realize reliability is far more important than the hp bug.

However, I feel as if one does their research, buys the right parts from the right places, and doesn't beat the living dog **** out of their car, it's surely obtainable. I'm in support of the OP because I don't have pump E85 in the area.
The other point I was going to make is that making a goal and always driving on kill mode are two different things. When I say my goal is to eventually make 600whp on pump I feel as if I, along with other enthusiasts, make that power to reach their goal but barely ever actually utilize their car at that HP level, which would add some reliability to the equation.
turbos dont make power , good setups do.
a bigger turbo in your setup will just create more lag for small gain in top end power. car wont get faster at track and may get slower. stock frame turbos dont fall on their face at 7000 when setup well. there is something wrong with your setup. a bigger turbo will be like a band aid on the problem
my advice would be figure out why you are not running 10 flat with the 2.4 black before considering a larger snail.

I disagree to a point, if u have a built engine and valvetrain that can rev high enough to keep it in boost between shifts, a bigger turbo is gonna be faster at the track as long as theres enough fuel and ignition to support it..... Street drivability wise it's not gonna be fun, but if u can't make a setup faster on a bigger turbo at the track ur not doing something right.... I don't see any fp blacks runnin 8's.....
To offer another point to this since you said "decrease daily drivability", I actually liked my laggy 10:1 2.0L/35R combo for daily driving better than my 2.4L/IX Turbo, as I could just cruise around town out of boost before and get Honda-like gas milage lol.

You all are saying that the FP turbo will last longer than a PTE turbo. A friend of mine is rocking the 6262 on his evo for a while now with no problems. Dont both turbo company's warranties on there turbo.
Turbo choice is never easy.. And as you can see the opinions are all over the place. Stick with a turbo and commit to it.. Thats all you can do... In my case i went ts hta3586 1.06ar... Felt it would be great for dd. My buddy has an old school 35r that spools at 5k, and honestly for dd... Its awsome.. Drop a gear and go. He is the main reason i went with 3586, the newer style should out spool and perform the old... And ill be more than happy with that

Here is an email I got from Buschur:
As for the turbo choice. **The HTA86 is my all time favorite T3, they are hard to get at times and the PTE6466 is a little bit less expensive and also works very good, so either one will work well for you. *The 6466 may even work better on the 2.4 to be honest.
