Hey guys,
I'm a new Mitsubishi owner have owned my Evo 5 for a few months now, can anyone tell me what these noises are and if they are normal? One seems to be the usual cam belt noise which i've read up about and I'm trying to figure out the one coming from the intake manifold/injectors area of the engine, could it be the balance shaft? Any other idea's?
Heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYnbZ...ature=youtu.be
Any help would be much appreciate
Thanks

sounds like the crankshaft pulley bolt is stripped, my friends car sounded pretty much the same.

hello man!!! I opened a thread about my engine issues..
First, I think was bearings, I change both (main and rod bearings).. And the noise continue.. then, take off the head to look pistons and all was fine... Finally It was the balance shaft.. I think, engine like us (older) we need to remove that... Tomorrow I´ll remove the short block and eliminate the balance shaft...

My experience with bad balance shaft bearings is that they don't make noise all of the time. Usually the noise occurs when then engine is hot and oil thin and you go WOT. The noise sounds like a card in bicycle spokes.

finally what happened???
My problem was not balance shaft =S....
Tomorrow I take off the transmission gear, I think are some loose flywheel bolts.. The engine its fine!

No good, im still in the process of resolving the noise issue, putting a new intake manifold gasket in and removing the EGR which I read can make a bit of noise https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-canister.html
Also have new genuine oem belts, water pump, pulleys and seals to put in to hopefully reduce noises coming from that area,
will keep you posted with what the out come is

I have the same noise on low rpm. and it happened to be one of my timing belt pulleys. if you cant see the timing belt flapping around then may be it's the lower pulled are old and loose. I'm waiting for my timing belt and pulleys at this time but it sound identical to mine's exect mine's disappear on higher rpms
