acd solenoid-how does it attach?

The solenoid on mu IX has broken off. Does it screw into the pump? Can I back out the broken threads in the pump or do I need to replace the entire unit?

Anyone have a pic of the solenoid by itself?

Thanks guys

no it just pulls out of the pump after you unscrew the little plate holding it in.

however, in your case, due to corrosion, the piece that was left in the pump is stuck in a bit.... normally it is just around the top, so what you need to do is pull out the little steel piston (save everything..) and then drill out the stuck aluminium valve body.... but just around the top is enough..
I usually underdrill quite a bit. Valve body for ACD valve is 16 mm, so 14 mm is enough.. Just to weaken it enough to break off the top pieces that are stuck with corrosion (usually there is just a bit of corrosion above the O-ring)...

Make sure you save all the little pieces, as we are working on a replacement for the valve body...

it comes from a low mileage evo X and is fully functioning, unlike it's twin brother (the ayc valve) that is corroded inside the pump..

no, you can sometimes buy it used... Dealers sell complete pumps only...

as I said, we are working on a fix for these, as it is all too common for them to corrode and break off. Hoping to setup some sort of repair service for them in the near future.

also, if you can get a used corroded Evo X pump, that might be a good source for the valves, as those pumps have 2 proportional valves on them, and both can be used on older evo's*.

*unless those are corroded too..
