Scott, thank you very much for posting the details about the situation! Thank you all at AMS (especially Larry!) for putting up with me and that car. I hope everything gets resolved sooner or later and yet again I appreciate all the work and quality that comes out of your shop! I could not imagine taking any car anywhere else.
the radiator shouldnt be cooling the coolant during the pull, more like after. im having a very hard time believing the heat is getting to the coolant as fast as it is, it takes time. is the block bored to the max or the head milled far too much? drag cars make full runs thru 4 gears without issue, even with no water pump running, a dyno pull shouldnt be a problem. it sounds like the cooling system is adequate, but the motor is making far too much heat and too fast.

From what I under stand, the block did not have any honing done when I talked to the machine shop because all of the cylinders only needed to be cleaned up and when I ordered pistons I believe it is only .20 over, I would have to call MAP to know for sure. But I know for a fact it was NOT bored to the max. When you are referring to milling on the head are you talking about decking the head or grinding the seats for a valve job or porting it a bit too much?
the cooling system is more than adequate, i think we all agree on that. so either the engine is making too much heat or the heat isnt making its way in to or out of the radiator fast enough.
maybe a totalizer to splice into the upper rad hose to see how much coolant is actually flowing thru?

I have seen some strange things in my years with Evo's
I wish you guys the best of luck as this is a strange issue indeed

Thanks,
Dallin

Did you guys remove that pipe when checking the water pump? And would you be able to find out what exactly the machine shop did out there and if they inspected the valve seats? My only other thought is that on the previous build they may have ground down the seats to far with the new valves and valve job, resulting in a thin barrier for the coolant to heat up extraordinarily fast. I have exhausted my resources extensively I hope a solution finds its way to the dyno soon! Thanks again!
