Question Looking for some input on clutch slippage.

I own a 06 IX MR with just less than 65,000 miles. Light bolt on mods and a very conservitive tune from AMS(320WHP).

Out of no where I've been expierencing some pretty significant clutch slippage during moderate acceleration especially in upper gears. Engine revs, but I don't go anywhere till it finally grabs. Really makes driving the car a dag. I haven't done anything recently to the car except for an oil change.

I'm curious if they may be another culperate aside from the clutch going out, as I mentioned, this came on all of a sudden. There was no pregression of notable slippage getting worse over time.

I don't drive this car that hard, as it's my daily, and have never performed and hard launches. The transmission still shifts very nicely and has no trouble going into any gears.

I'm in no way in search of someone to "solve all my problems for me" I've been searching. Just looking to tap into the wealth of knowledge on the forum. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I was afraid that was going to be the case, unfortunatly replacing my clutch is a bit out of my level of mechanical ability and it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get a shop to do it. I was quoted at about $950 for the 9 hours of labor it would take.

that quote is about right, clutch install isnt very hard if you have a trans jack or engine hoist. you'd be surprised what you're capable of!!!

You need a new clutch. I got an ACT HDSS with prolite flywheel and am very happy with my choice. I dd my car as well and this clutch IS stiffer than stock but very manageable on the daily. just my opinion..

Thanks for the input everyone! I guess I just have to decide if I'm going to try to tackle this on my own(gotta find the time, and something to drive while it's apart), or if I'm gunna pony up the big bucks to get a shopt to do it(the thought of which makes me sick).

trying it on your own could end up costing you more.

it's not as easy as some may say,and you will need to buy lots of tools, jacks,a crane.you're looking at $400 in tools to do it,then probably 20hrs in time since you will be ill prepared.

than on top of all that, you might screw it up.

if the shop is good,it may be easier to go ahead and pay them the $600-$700.

I think I'm going to go with a Exedy Stage One HD Organic Clutch kit, but I'm not sure what flywheel to go with or if I should even bother replacing the stock one. Does anyone have any suggestions on the matter?

My understanding was that it is wise to replace the flywheel while you're already in there.
