Metal shavings in transmission fluid

Hey everyone,

I just changed my transmission fluid trying to see if I could get rid of that dreaded deceleration noise, come to find that there is a bit of metal shaving in the trans fluid. Would that be a tell tale sign of a bad bearing, or something that needs to be looked into? or is a bit of metal shavings in the fluid pretty normal?

Thanks

Glitter and shavings are fine and normal in tranny fluid, that's why you've got a magnet to help filter that stuff out. Syncros are wear items, remember.

It's chunks you have to worry about.

yeah, that is what I thought, just wanted to be sure. Has anyone else tried replacing input shaft bearings, and/or output shaft bearings, to get rid of the deceleration transmission noise?

your decell noise is not coming from tranny.

it comes from the driveshaft rattling when its not loaded. engine harmonics cause the rattle. it is the clutch/fly design that normally stops these harmonics from getting to shaft. aftermarket clutches and fly are cause of your problem.

So If one were to put an OEM clutch and flywheel back in to the car, the noise might/should go away?
I am having a few noises/problems, one being the decel noise, another being a slight rattle when the clutch engaged, and goes away when disengaged. I am told that is either the throwout or input shaft bearing, which I thought if it was a bearing in the trans, would also explain the decel noise too. Sorry, I am mildly confused and I am just trying to figure out the cause instead of wasting money replacing things that dont need to be replaced, but I greatly appreciate the help.

The market for Evolutions is not Soccer Moms, it is car enthusiasts. That being the case, it is possible the owner will enter the vehicle in some sort of racing event, meaning that on some blistering July afternoon the car will be wrung out and all the parts will get hot. To allow for such use parts need clearance for expansion. This makes the drive train noisy.

I'm getting a horrible decel noise from my car as well. I thought it was the transfer case so I sent it out to shep and got a stage two build. Reinstalled it last week and the noise is still there. Could this be my issue? I was wondering if the clutch could have caused this problem because the issue first raised when i was on and off the clutch in heavy traffic. The trans itself shifts smooth and butter no grinds or vibrations but just a loud decel noise when in 4th and 5th at cruising speeds on the highway. I wasted 1700 bucks on a transfer case rebuild when I didn't need one so I wanna make certain I sort out the problem's origin before I go throw a new trans in it.

Almost everyone is having this decel noise problems so it must be some sort of clutch/fly wheel related. I have act clutch and mine makes the annoying decel noise too in 4th and 5th. I wouldt worry about it too much evos are just noisy lol

Hahaha, I suspected this all along due to the nature of many people saying they also had this noise , but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't dealing any unnecessary damage to the trans/tranfer, so I just thought I would check.

But I still have the rattle noise that goes away when you push in the clutch, so I still need to replace something. Throwout bearing, I presume.

I'm gonna end up changing my clutch hopefully within a couple weeks and see if that cures it

Are you changing it back to OEM? If not you are not going to cure a thing from what everyone is saying. I think the general consensus I got was the only way to cure the noise was to turn up the music.

Still, let us know how it works out for you.
