P0300 misfire code fix!!!!!
SC, you are right, but I think that if mitsu is willing to replace a few transmissions to hold off the most-complaining customers, then there should be no exceptions. If I escalate the problem to that level, they should be willing to do it knowing that there's a problem with the ECU they haven't corrected yet...
Apparently they are having delays with getting it passed by the EPA or something, you know, governmental standards and such.
I'm just hoping they'll do the right thing in the interim so that I can go back to being happy evo customer #5400.

To add, the other service tech told me today that this will last for roughly 6 months then be back to the way it is now. He said it has to do with the throw-out bearing and that the ECU fix would take care of it.
I had to run but will call him tomorrow to ask, more about the long run. If they can't guarantee that the problem is the ECU and not the tranny, I will push for the buyback and sell my new exhaust and clutch.

In a strange turn of events, I went to a bimmer meet/cruise yesterday. Several hundred hard-driven miles and not a PEEP from the car/SES light. I am beginning to suspect that ultra cold weather exorcises the demons from this car.
I am still waiting to hear about my tranny replacement, but in the meantime I am opening a case file w/ Mitsu and I advise anyone else with this problem (after it has been diagnosed as "unfixable" by your dealership) to do the same.

I found out about the po300 code in an indirect way. I've actually had 34k trouble free miles so far. Last night I filled up at a full serve station and left my car un-attended for a while. As soon as I drove away, the SES lit up for the first time.
I thought maybe the gas cap needed to be tightened, which I did end up doing, but that didn't get rid of the SES.
Today I took a trip to Autozone and indeed pulled 2 instances of po300. 1 for a single cylinder misfire, the other was for multiple cylinders.
He cleared the codes and I was on my way. No more SES light.
I have never felt any misfire symptons though.
My only mods are a grounding kit and custom dyno flash tune at 15k.
The cars been mint otherwise.
I'm tempted towards replacing the spark plugs. I thought plugs of this caliber would of been able to last longer, but that might not be the case.
Either way, my confidence in owning this car for the long haul has dropped just a bit.
I dont beat on my car, meticulously maintain it, drive mostly highway miles, still going strong on the stock clutch too.
Still shows it doesn't matter. There is definitely an inherent flaw with these cars after reading all the complaints here.
lets all hope for the best..

Just another FYI I have made a few trips back and forth from Houston, Tx to Savannah, GA. And I have noticed that I only get the p0300 missfire if I am running premium gas (93oct). When I make the trip with regular gas ( cruising on freeway with boost controller off) I never get the missfire and I also get better gas mileage. Of course using premium the missfire will pop up after about 45 miutes of driving. I would never recommend anyone to run regular gas but this missfire is so annoying on long trips like the 1000mile drive I make all so often. That I am willing to try anything, even putting the crappy gas in it to fix it. So I know for sure that its not a tranns problem but a ECU problem. Other wise the gas wouldn't make a diffence.
Hey Doug, thanks for using your car as the guinea pig for that.
I agree it's definitely the ECU. I want Mitsu to get their **** together NOW and get this fixed/certified/etc. It's ridiculous to have to wait this long.
In the meantime if they feel the urge to put a new tranny in my car to shut me/the knock sensor up temporarily, I won't complain.

Just started
They were waiting for me to give them my new clutch, exhaust and shifter. Yes, they are installing them for me
And yes, I do deal with the best Mitsu dealer in the U.S.!!
Go Westboro Mitsubishi!!!

Hey redusevo did they start the tranny replacement yet? Mine is still in the shop. New tranny should be in and ready to go by tomorrow. They don't know if this will fix the problem for the long run, but they're crossing fingers on a temporary fix. My consumer confidence is rock bottom and my laywer is on the case. District Rep will call me tomorrow when my car is done so we can discuss my options. I'll keep you all posted.

Bob you are a lucky SOB.
I put a case in with Mitsu today.
I STRONGLY URGE YOU ALL TO DO THE SAME IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE
It is the only way to get visibility on this problem. Just call 1-800-426-7038, option 2, option 4. It will take you appx. 10 mins. Tell the first customer rep that you wish to get a case file going for your troubled evo. They will verify your personal information, get a short problem description from you, then put you through to an MMNA case file handler who will get your **** all straightened out.
PLEASE do this if you have this problem. Much appreciated.

OK folks, big big update!
Just got off the phone w/ my district rep. He informed me that he just spoke with the Mitsu tech folks and they indeed did admit that the transmission is the cause of the vibration which is causing the error code. They also confirmed that the transmission replacement work would fix the problem only until the transmission clearances loosened up a bit, apprx. 15k miles.
In addition to that, they said the EPA should have their ecu reflash certified by the end of may. Now the end of may is 1.3 months away right now, so it's a bit of a wait...
Hope that brings you all up to date. Currently the tranny is being looked at as an option, but for those wishing to just get the ecu reflash it's a bit further off. Remember also that they originally said the end of February, which didn't happen obviously. Hopefully it won't turn into anything longer than that.
Unfortunately I do not want to disclose the settlement that I came to with my rep, but I can assure you that if you get your service manager and district rep together to get this resolved, they won't let you go away unhappy.
Hope this helps some of you out.
