Looking for input on my car and mods.
Looking for input on my car and mods.
Just trying to get some opinions about my car and setup.
First off the background of the car that I know.
It is a 2003 EVO 8. I bought it @ the beginning of July with about 72000 miles.
What I know about it is: the previous owner had it pretty well built up and blew the engine @ some point (rod knock). The mitsu dealer got the car somehow (either the owner didn't want to pay for the repair, or traded it in, not sure) and installed a new short block and removed the larger turbo and injectors and replaced with stock.
So the car currently has:
ETS 3.5" FMIC w/ ETS LICP and ETS short route 3" UICP.
IC is 2.5" in and 3" out.
MAP 02 dump and AMS turbo back exhaust (somebody did install a universal cat and cut up the test pipe to do it, it is smaller than 3" and kind of a hack job, will be replaced soon)
It does have cams installed, see: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...se-thread.html
and looks like springs and retainers, retainers say works on them.
The turbo is 9.8 hotside.
I'm assuming it has a fuel pump installed since all the other mods kind of require it, haven't checked for sure yet though, waiting for it to cool down.
Has AEM UEGO and boost gauge installed. I installed a 4bar OMNI MAP sensor and Tephra 7 94170715 map.
I swapped boost pills to use the stock system to higher psi.
Has a forge RS bpv.
Now to my request for input.
I currently have the car tuned for about 21psi (in AZ and our 91 oct is crap) and it hits peak boost @ about 4000 rpm. I hold to about 18-19 to 7500.
My timing starts around 12-13 @ 2500rpm to about 3-4 @ peak, then tapers back to about 10 or so @ max RPM.
AFR around 12 @ peak, 11-11.5 tapering to high 10's to 11 @ redline.
My virtual dyno looks like this:
Does the spool look decent for the 9.8 turbo?
Should I shoot for more boost?
Is the IC a bit overboard for how the car is setup now?
I may upgrade the turbo/injectors eventually but wouldn't go very big, it is my daily driver and I want to keep it pretty reliable and safe.
I know the cat is probably not helping and I will get a new test pipe soon.
Would you guys recommend a slightly smaller FMIC and piping to get a little better spool or do you think the extra cooling is probably better for me in AZ?
The car drives well and pulls good, I'm happy with it just looking for input for future plans.
Thanks for reading.

You could boost to around 25 psi peak. Far as future upgrades bigger turbo/injectors or whatever depends on really what your goals are. If you want to keep good dd a lot of people run FP reds. Fars as injectors, go with something that will be over kill so you don't have to get them again. I will have some PTE 1000cc/min available at the end of October.
just my .02
just my .02
Depends on how much you want to spend. You could port your stock ex mani, or pick up a evo9 turbo on here for cheap, also get injectors like the he said above.. All depends on were you want to take the car. you could also tune it to e85 if you have the stations around. Skys the limit
