Still Whining

Okay, so I go the Timing Belt, Balance Belt, and all the pulleys changed. I got a new Power Steering pump and Serpentine belt but the whine is still there. OMG what is next to take out? This is insane. I'm going to post a video when I get somebody with an iPhone or something at work. WTF!?

More of a description will probably help some. Is the whine rpm dependent, gear specific, where do you hear it, when etc?

Passenger side from the accessory belt area. RPM dependent not gear. Metallic ringing almost. I've got to get that video up.

Define all pulleys. What about serpentine belt pulleys?

Now I'm not a mechanic but I got all the pulleys that the Timing Belt runs and a new timing belt to include a new balance belt. The only thing pulley related on the accessory belt I got switched out was the Power Steering. I also got a new accessory belt.

are any of your belts touching you timing blet covers? i know the crank pulley will sometimes touche the lower timing belt cover? specially if the cover comes on and off alot.

pull the passenger wheel off and pull back the wheel well and look/ listen around in there.

to me it sounds like a rubbing noise

I'm going to try and get the wheel off and on the lift tomorrow. There is a car-center here on the Naval Base that DIY'ers can use. Of course I've never used a full out bay before or a lift for that matter. I'm thinking everything is pretty straight forward. I'm going to research and figure out how to get into the serpentine belt and how to loose the tensioner. I'll look along the path to see if there are any obstructions. I hope there are so I won't go back into mystery world.

Can a bad pulley or bearing make that shrill noise though? How the hell could a trained mechanic miss an obsturction when they put the new belt on? IS that something that could happen? Man, this is annoying. I hosed it down with WD-40 this morning and for like 2 sec there was no noise and then kablam! Noise. 2 sec of bliss with man and machine.

i havent heard a pulley make that sound, and you said you replaced you timing pulleys.

it sounds like something is rubbing to me.

when i installed my fluidampr the lower timing cover was touching and it was making a sound like a whistle. but i fixed it and it was gone.

once you get the wheel well pulled back and the timing covers off start it up again and see if it goes away.

If it doesnt go away at least you things out of the way and hopefully pin point it.

also you will be able to manually turn the engine and see if you can hear hit. BUT ONLY TURN it CLOCKWISE

Use a mechanics stethoscope to help pinpoint where the noise is coming from. A basic cheap one is pretty inexpensive. Does the noise change when you turn the steering wheel? It does sound like a power steering pump but i have also heard this type of noise coming from a timing belt that is too tight, which is what i think it is on your car. Good luck.

The noise does not change with steering. The power steering pump is new. It made the sound before I got the new belt put on and there was no change after the replacement (timing belt).

Dude that sounds like power steering pump whine, but you changed out the pump. All 90's and early 2000 v6 mustangs have the same whine and its the power steering that make this exact same noise. It only gets louder when accelerating. So if its coming from whats below the power steering pump then thats the a/c compressor.

Thats definitely a mechanical whine and not rubbing.

Wait what did you hose down with WD-40? Hose it as it's spinning to test.

Get a long screw driver and put it on the power steering pump and put you ear on the handle. Lift the car and do the same thing with the a/c compressor thats under the power steering pump. Thats should tell you what is making that horrible noise.

Take the accessory belt off for a brief moment, and start the car.

Taking the car into the hobby shop today with my buddy the mechanic. We'll have a full bay to f/w. Okay, so how are is it to get the pulley off and the bearing out of the AC Compressor. I'm looking for a good used new one but if I can grease that bearing that's the real fix you know?

We got the wheel and belt off for a good close up look. It's not the AC Compressor, it is still the power steering. Man, I got a new one from the For Sale forum. WTF. My buddy hit it with silicone lubes and it just wouldn't quiet down. I don't know what to do.
