Engine Shutter at highway speed

The other night it was about 0 or below. I got my car on the interstate, after it was warmed up and punched the gas. The car didnt move out, it just shuttered and shook?

What the hell was this? I might have had snow packed in the wheels, since we have about 2 feet of snow here. But I dont think this was the issue?

Then the next day driving around town I would punch it, and it would take off like it should?

Im going to be doing some more highway driving and see if I can make it do this again?

But in the mean time any thoughts, or has anyone had this issue beofre?

Thanks

Was it when you let off the gas?Do you have a Forge DV BOV? I have heard of them causing a similar problem.

Fuel cut feels like you hit a brick wall with the immediete cessation of fuel and spark. Few people describe it as stuttering. Check your plugs.

I had a similar problem to this as I have a Forge BOV. I changed to the lighter spring and it diminished drastically. Does anyone know what exactly causes this?

ok, it can happen bad or it can happen lightly...but if it were your plugs wouldn't it happen even when not under boost?

Actually bad plugs might still spark adequately when there's no boost, but under boost misfire badly due to the spark becoming "blown out" even though thats a poor term to use, basically it may fire ok until the effective compression (through boost) gets raised..

But this sounds like fuel cut.. Its probably a good idea to replace your stock plugs with aftermarket Iridium ones (with a one step cooler heat range) if your car is modified.

Car is not modded,,,, stock bov.

I have about 10k miles.

But driving around town it hits boost just fine?

But on the highway, outside temp was below zero, plus the fact i was going about 70mph. Would this be fuel cut due to boost spike?

I will have my plugs changed out at my next oil change, see if this helps?

Thanks

Your on the right track.. with temps that cold, boost spike is almost certain to happen, and with it comes fuel cut..

Why would spikes happen only when really cold out? I live in Colorado so I have an interest in this as well. My car is stock and I have no intention of modding...but I would like to know why if anyone can clairfy. Thx

It's compressor surge. Pretty common with aftermarket BOVs. Swapping over to a softer spring allows it to crack open during light throttle lift-off which allows the compressed air to recirculate through the intact tract instead of slamming back and forth between the your turbo and your throttle body.

Cheers,
shiv

Well, once again my car is stock.

I did it again today , weather is about 20 outside, it didnt shutter, but then again it didnt really pull as hard as it did at 60 in 5th while mashing the gas on warm days.

The day it shuttered and wouldnt go, the temp was -5 outside.
So I figure it must has been fuel cut/ boost spike?

So i guess the evo dosnt like to be run hard when the wind chill is around -60,,,,, taking in the mph I was traveling.

So i guess all is well in EvoLand.
Thanks
