Aftermakert airbox or not

I'm currently obsessed with cooling & insulation, I'm currently debating whether to install an airbox for my aftermarket intake or not (similar to the Apexi box in the picture) It seems like a good idea to insulate the filter from all the extremely hot air under the hood, on the other hand, it defies the entire purpose of the stock plastic box being removed to allow for more free flow!

Any thoughts?

IT would help keep the intake charge temps down

for your location, i definitely recommend a cold airbox. i haven't seen an aftermarket setup that looks to be effective. suggest having a custom one made up.

It won't smother the intake, preventing it from sucking enough air? A good idea might be to add an air duct between the front bumper & airbox

Search for posts by me on cold air boxes. You'll find my setup and some other setups that work pretty good.

after seeing first hand how much of a difference the stock scoop actually made on my AIT's even without a shield, id be inclined to say that some form of custom box with utilizing the stock scool might be quite effective.

You have stock scoop + stock box, or stock scoop + aftermarket intake? Did you actually get to compare stock vs non-stock for best IAT's?

Yea unless you provide some sort of air supply it might not work so well. Here's the start to my solution.

Just route a tube up from front bumper, provided you have the space. On non ACD 8s we just remove the IC sprayer reservoir. ACD models have trouble since the pump reservoir is located right where this would go. Not sure what your engine bay has in terms of obstructions...just get creative.

The next step will be some kind of heat shield on or around the filter to keep off radiant bay heat. Prob won't do a full enclosure because I'm a sound ***** and I love me some loud turbo sound effects lol

^^100% home-made btw. I would prob just bolt a ss or alum shield to the maf housing to block heat associated with the radiator. Air passing thru the rad goes directly at the filter. Idling is terrible for underhood heat, plus when the rad fan kicks on its a mouthful of 180deg air straight into the filter

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do, I have my air duct already (picture) I hope that it's enough of an air supply, providing that the air box is fully enclosed!
I'm planing to purchase an aftermarket aluminum box, I might cover the inside by heat resistant sheets.

stock scoop+perrin intake. in 80ish ambient temps and decent humidity i was surprised to log within 5 degrees of ambient temps at the MAF for almost an entire pull.
