It was a max effort build that we tested them in, but they were worth around 75whp over the Kelford 272 on a car that ended up making 750whp.

Based on the 1mm duration values listed for the GSC cams, it looks like the FP5R has slightly more duration on the exhaust side and maybe a little less on the intake. Considering they are reaching the same peak lift, I have to wonder how different the ramp rates are.

Code:
              FP5R / GSC R2
Lift [in]
Intake: 0.475 / 0.476
Exhaust: 0.466 / 0.469

Advertised Duration
Intake: 279 / 274
Exhaust: 285 / 274

Duration @ 0.050"
Intake: 233 / ???
Exhaust: 238 / ???

Lobe Center Line
Intake: 110 / 107
Exhaust: 114 / 115
I dont have the 0.050" values but I can tell you that they did make more power than the 5R in a 2.3 IX we did. Unfortunately it wasnt back to back, more same sized motor, intake, and turbo vs the R2.

What was the spool up difference and torque difference on that car?

It was a 2.0 VIII, it lost 300rpm from the Kelford 272 but made another 50 ft lbs. When we were full swing in the testing phase we tried to leave no stone unturned so we tried them in a 2.0 to see what the gains were and what the weaknesses were.

Interesting. I wonder what these will do for my setup? I can handle the hp gain up top, I could handle torque gains and I think I could sacrifice a little spool up to get more torque and hp.

Got some news coming on these cams used on a stock block Evo 9 with 5041 springs/retainers and gsc seals. Just so everyone knows there where no valve/piston issues and retainer/seal gaps where fine. Tom at TSComp is tuning and at this early stage (two maps in) his comment was "wow", more to come.

I will installing same set up on a stock 2.0 next week and Tom as well will be doing the tuning. With a 71 HTA and open dump...it should put good numbers on 93.

Hey John or Travis
What cam will best serve my setup s2,s3 or r2

EVO VIII
Buschur stage 3 head
GT35 turbo
2.3 stroked
no longer driven on the street..for track purposes only

I thought s3 were the latest since "S" comes after "R" lol

IIRC S3 is for 2L so your best to wait for the R3

Aaron,
You guys are currently building my long block and I am up in the air on whether I should run S3's or R2's. My setup is as follow.

4G63 SLR 2.2L 153mm rod, 94mm stroke wiseco 1400 9.5 pistons
GSC cnc cylinder head with all the bells and whistles
BW EFR T4 8374 TS 1.05 A/R with all full race hot parts

I think my motor should be done in the next 2-3 weeks as Myles said he just received a batch of blocks from the machine shop so I believe time is running out.

I was originally going to go with S3's so that I could take advantage of the high rpm capability of my block as well as the increased air flow of the GSC cnc cylinder and 79lb/min turbo.

Besides telling me which is the better cam choice, could you give me possible pros and cons for either choice on my particular motor setup??

I have a similar setup to nismo, but I have a 2.0, I want to run r2's, but I want to know your opinion as to if it would be a good idea?

I would base it on powerband more than anything. The R2 should be pretty close to the S3 as far as peak power but will develop it sub 9000 where the S3 works better in cars that rev.
