Spoolin Up CDi Ignition!?!?

Hey guys just wanted to throw up a few pictures of the "in progress" CDi coil on plug ignition system that Spoolin Up has been working on. I am fortunate enough to work with Matt testing this out and providing him with feedback to work all of the bugs out so hopefully soon this system will be available to everyone!

Can't wait until this is finished up and available to everyone, a cost effective quality CDi ignition is exactly what the Evo community needs! Let me know what you all think!

I just went to their website and it shows two CDI kits available, a black and a blue kit. It said these were released yesterday, so I'd say that's a new development.

Damn glad its taken me a minute to buy the cop now I'm definitely going to have to get this one vs the non cdi cop. But on that subject and probably a stupid question but why is the black more expensive than the blue when the blue seems to have better specs? Does the black just have a more reliable cdi or does the Blue just not correct the wastespark system to a single fire.

I believe the black is a non waste spark set up and the blue is a waste spark set up. But im not sure why its a 400$ difference just for that reason only. unless someone can chime in and explain why the waste spark box and the non waste spark set up are so far apart in price.

The only difference I can see, is the black system is an M&W-based unit, and the blue system uses a Dynatek unit.

As someone who is thinking about going for a sequential cdi ignition, I want more info on this "black" cdi ignition. It's stated that it competes with the other sequential cdi's out there, like sparktech and such. Where's the info on this product, testing, anything. If this product performs like the more expensive units, who wouldn't want to save some money. So does anyone have any information on this, I have searched which has brought me back to this post that I was already active in. I would love to hear from either the company, or someone who has bought one and used it first hand. I feel as if, yeah this is cheaper but if there's is no facts, more information about this product why wouldn't I just save up more money and buy the more expensive unit!!

at 10K rpm you have 0.006s (6.0ms) per revolution so that should be plenty of time to charge/discharge a coil for even for a non CDI unit using wasted spark. I run 3.8ms of dwell on the Bosch P100-t coils (non CDI) and up to 9000rpm. The CDI coils typically have a shorter dwell time, about half, so that increases your ability to run higher rpm using wasted spark. CDI typically has a much higher spark energy vs non CDI, which is beneficial for high compression, high boosted setups.

I run 37psi on a 10:1 motor with stock plug and stock gap so for my setup the non CDI wasted spark setup is fine. My point in all of this rambling is that I am not sure you necessarily gain anything by going sequential on an EVO with CDI unless you are revving the engine well past 12k rpm.
