Thinking of Upgrading my Evo 8 turbo..

Hey guys,

So i seen online Evo 8 and 9 turbos that people have switched the compressor housings to a 20g or a 25g...

Is this even worth considering? how much power can you really get out of just switching the compressor cover and wheel. And can you just take the old one off and put on the new one?

First few questions OP, you should be asking yourself is:

1. What's my power goal?
2. What's my budget?
3. What are my intentions for using this car? DD, drag, road race, etc.
4. Will this upgrade be a one & done, or will I want more power next month?

Once you answer these, you can move on to the next step which is figuring out what exactly you'll need to do to your engine/car to achieve those goals.. (i.e. supporting mods.)

Answer these questions, & we can move on from here in a productive way.. Otherwise, you'll get suggestions from people ranging from an upgraded turbine housing to a Precision 6262 turbo..

I want to build the car for road racing so i want something with good power but is also responsive. So I am shooting for low to mid 400 at wheel on pump so i am looking for a one and done upgrade. I know the evo 9 turbo could get me there but it is pushing the turbo kinda hard. Something like a FP green would be great but they are 1700 used and if something ever goes wrong are still expensive to get rebuilt.

I have most of my support mods done. Bigger FMIC, hard ICP, Full 3in turbo back, Zetronix monitoring, Fuel Pump. So looking for turbo upgrade and injectors now.

Hmm well you must be talking about BB Units because a brand new JB Green is $1695

As for rebuilding them unless the CHRA is completely destroyed it's rare to see a rebuild cost more than $600.

A BBK-Full will get you to those power levels

I would definitely reccomend doing this, i had an evo 8 with a 9 turbo and for the price the difference was great. You can get a used evo 9 turbo for around 400, and sell your 8 for probably around 200. For $200 out of pocket i would say the horsepower to money ratio is pretty good.

I don't think you'll find a more responsive and capable turbo for your particular goals than the HTA Green. With the right supporting mods it can easily get you in the 400whp range on pump gas on our mustang dyno (and 450 on a dynojet). This will give you everything you asked for and still have plenty of headroom left, ensuring a one-and-done choice.

Even if you run a larger compressor housing on your stock evo 8 turbo, your bottleneck will still be the very restrictive 9.8cm2 exhaust housing.

Would getting a monster 25g with a 11.5 house ing be a good option? New with a one year warranty is 1000. And a whole new center Carthage is only 400...

Its CBRDs line of turbos.. i believe they use Blouch but from what i have seen they are super solid. My friend has had a bbk-full on his evo for 20k miles and makes around 415awhp on CBRDs dyno and the BBK-B-BB is a rather new turbo but supposedly it makes some awesome power (a good bit more then the BBK-Full) i just havent personally witnessed it. I will be upgrading to a Ported BBK-Full sometime this month and im shooting for mid 400s on pump gas
