The customer tried to remedy his tranny/ transfer case leak by removing the OEM sealing "cup" (the sealing "cup" prevents fluid from being slung out of the output shaft seals of the t-case/ tranny) from the original axle to lancer axle, in his search to why his axles were leaking... Pretty hacked up job (ie he RTV'ed the cup in position) lol... In the end I found out the first 3 axles he purchased from the local auto-parts stores, were ALL the incorrect versions of the Evo axle, aka lancer axle. DSS or OEM looked like the only viable option at the moment, but we tried Rockauto.com and they sent us great replacement CV axle assemblies (x4) first shot.. I highly recommend rockauto.com for anyone trying to get OE replacements. Not everyone needs 1000whp rated axles.

Notes or comparison for anyone trying to find replacement CV axles for their Evo..

-First, the lancer axle will NOT have the tranny/ transfer case output shafts "sealing cup" on the axle. Immediate identification.
-Axles ARE SHORTER!
-Notice the beefiness of the Evo axle's in comparison to the lancer axles.. The cv- joints are bigger and so is the axles' diameter..

I'll post some pics in a bit of a "right" and a "wrong" axle for you
Thanks sir!!!

Okay so apparently Rockauto does not have the right ones, as of right now.. Sorry guys. Im familiar with the "GSP" axle assemblies and "tough one"axles. They are the only ones I can recommend. They use more durable cv boots, compared to stock, (OEM) and use better grease to pack the joints (high moly content).. Both work great and are remanufactured OE units.

BUT... Advanced Auto currently DOES have the axles in stock. As of today, right now...

Heres the link to some axles (ie left & right) that will 100% work for you guys:

Advance auto parts passenger side does not seal against the oil seal. Driver side fits great.

I actually just had my rear passenger side outer boot tear. Is it better to replace the whole axle, or is the OEM boot replacement sufficient enough? I guess in a way I'm fortunate that it's just the outer, but unfortunate that's its torn..

And it doesn't look like DSS sells the rear pair at stage 0 either.

how long has the boot been torn? if greater than ~200 miles i would just go ahead and replace the axle. if you search other sites you can find the stage 0's but the price my be a little higher but it's still lower than OEM.

Yeah, it's probably over 200 miles by now. I just don't want a knock off that's significantly lesser quality.

Drive Shaft Shop is the way to go. BTW if anyone is having bad deceleration noises due to after market internals, clutch, etc....all the rattles go away when the DDS axle is installed. 😁 The extra weight of the DDS calmed all the resonance. Best mod ever.

so bump this thread, not wanting to spend $700+ on axles at the moment. several less expensive alternatives were mentioned, which is best?

Not only that but since they're too short the axle does NOT seat the seal on the transfer case/transmission. Causing both of them to leak. I was quick enough to realize this before my transfer case bit the dust due to lack of gear oil. Just buy OEM and don't look back.

EDIT: DSS axles I would assume were made with a lot more R&D compared to Advanced Auto Part's. If you do go that route do yourself the favor and compare it to the OEM axle and make sure they're the same length.
agreed. Don't buy cheap bull****. I bought used OEM axles just because I'd rather have OEM than a new advanced/Autozone crap. I'd rather have a used OEM axle off ebay than that junk.
