I'm not a car guy but I love my Evo 8.

It has 136K miles on it. The shop I take it to, after looking at my turbo and other things, says the unit MIGHT last another year. I dont know what's wrong with it but I'm a bit sad.

I looked online and saw that reconditioned EVo 8 turbos, just the unit, go for around $900.

If my turbo does go out, can I buy that unit and have it installed with all the parts that are already in there (assuming they are good).

I cannot spend a lot of money (2,000 or more) so I'm just trying to see if that if the correct price that people see and if that is even possible to get a new turbo for that price plus the install?

Thanks....if not, I'll have to sell it to someone and then get something else.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, just enjoy the car and replace the turbo when it needs to be . As far as being sad don't be because when it goes you will have a good reason to upgrade and believe me you wont be sad .

Unless the turbo is seizing up or pushing oil from its seals, it is fine. You can "finger" it yourself to check for shaft play. Somebody saying "MIGHT" last another year is suspect to me, like they are just trying to get you to spend money.

your looking in the wrong place if you seen them for 900. evo 8 turbos are sold for anywhere near 2-500 and evo 9 turbos used sell for around 700 max. i agree someone saying it might last a year seems suspect. if your car isnt smoking or there isnt excessive shaft play i wouldnt worry about it.

just enjoy the car don't worry too much. We may not last another year too. Lol. You may want to ask to see some data that back up that statement.
Actually I found the stock turbo is one of the most reliable turbo based on some of my friends upgraded turbo versus other stock.
