i have had this same exact problem for probably 2 years now and cant figure it out so i gave up on it. changed the inner tie rods and the outer and theres no play in anything else but i still hear it. i get a banging noise going around turns from driver side floor and sometimes passenger side.

It may actually be the two pieces on the pinion shaft inside the rack itself. This often happens if it has been used without the assist of the pump or lack of fluid.

Eh, it's pretty much a new rack or depowering the existing rack. To each his own, I'd reccomend staying with the power steering myself.

Ditto, I seem to have become a victim of this same problem? Mines very prominent and happens almost constantly. Any info on a fix? Not looking forward to dealing with this one..
