Arp L19 head stud install

I have some questions about installing theses head studs searched but didn't really find the answer to my particular question. Little background information: this is a new build, not a 1x1 install. Going into Br 2.3rpm with a STM built head. I am using an Oem head gasket. I am currently running kelford 272 cams, Fp black, going to be running 32-38 psi. Put down 466whp 450tq on STMs Dyno last year at 28 psi. Clearly looking for more this year 550+ shouldn't be unreasonable I don't believe. On to the question at hand.

Does anyone "preload" the studs on install? What I mean is do people torque just the studs into the block or are they just put in hand tight?

I have a pm out but thought I would post this to see what others are doing and also for anyone else that has this question. I will comment back, when I receive the reply.

Instructions say use ARP assembly lube and tighten studs hand tight. Then tourque in OEM specified order....20 then 40 then 80 then 100 then 110 ft/lbs.
It was pretty hard to locate this info....

I thought that it was 95 ft/lbs like on BR site but Dave told me recently that he would go to 110 ft/lbs.

^thanks! I searched for a bit but maybe I wasn't using the correct words in my search. Or maybe I was being to specific with the search.

Hopefully this helps others find information.

Good info, thanks.

When you say hand tighten, does that mean you will hand tighten the studs on the block, then put the head on, or do you hand tighten the studs after the head is on?

The studs should never be 'preloaded' or otherwise applied with torque in the head. Doing so places a resting torsional strain on the stud, and you don't want that. ARP specifies the threads should be cleaned so the studs install without excess friction, and seated finger tight only.

For the nuts, I advise using the ARP ultra-torque lube and sticking to the ARP specified torque. Those torque values are calculated to apply 75% yield load, and tightening them further only reduces the amount of counter force the head can apply before the studs yield. It's a situation whereby a little more is not a little better.

When in doubt, simply visit ARP's website and use your kit number to find a pdf of the appropriate installation instructions: Lookup ARP Install Instructions
