Why no more recerculating BOV's?
Why no more recerculating BOV's?
I thought I was established almost as soon as the Evo came out that Recirculating BOV's worked perfect for the Evo. Everyone was out getting the Forge Motorsport valve. And then some people that were venting to atmosphere experieced drivability problems because they ended up running rich.
Is this still happening or what? Because David Bushur and RnR both have vent to atmosphere valves on their new turbo kits. And also boost solutions too.
So David and RnR and everybody else, isn't it a better option to recirculate and if I wanted to order one of your turbo kits could I still get a recirculating BOV if I wanted?
Thank you gentlemen....

Maybe because they went to a different engine management system and switched to speed density instead of mass air? Dunno for certain, but I'd guess that's the most logical answer.
Re: Why no more recerculating BOV's?
I think it depends on what sort of engine management you're using. If you're using the OEM ECU with either a flash or a piggyback, a BPV is still advocated.
If you're going with a standalone such as the AEM EMS, the most efficient intake is one that eliminates the MAF as a restriction. This allows you to vent to atmosphere since the air mass is no longer metered in the same fashion. Instead a manifold air pressure sensor is used. This in combination with RPM data allows the ECU to determine the amount of air entering the engine.
At least that's how I think it works. I'm not really a tuner but I play one on the internet. I'm sure there are plenty on nuances to be accounted for.

I didn't know what their current setup was
. I didn't read the rest of the post, just him asking about the "lack of recirculation", lol
.
But yeah, that crushed 1G can hold a nasty amount of boost.

If you are using the MAS you will have to use a recirculating BOV to get the car to run perfectly, you are correct.
On our car now we have a vent to atmosphere valve but have converted the car to speed density, so it works perfectly.
