has anyone mounted this in the engine bay or close to it? Or is it better to keep it closer to the tank itself?

Should anything such as a sealent or telflon type tape of some sort ever need to used on the threads of -AN fittings when connecting them together?

The -AN fittings should be self-sealing flared ends. If you have an -AN adapter with pipe fitting on one side and -AN on the other, you would need to teflon the pipe thread side.

You can mount it anywhere. Im probably going to mount mine on the firewall for ease of servicing and cleaning out the filter. The main point of the inline is to catch any debris that may make it into the lines from a failed fuel pump so it doesnt destroy your injectors. Your tank already has a sock on the bottom of the pump.

Also, the filter should be between 50 to 100 microns of filtering. If its too fine, you will only make a restriction in the fuel system and starve the injectors.
