Cool, in for results. I keep meaning to send my oil in for analysis. It would be nice to know if my current 3000mi oci is necessary or if I can extend that. Its also a great way to gain insight on to the condition of my engine. Of course this thread is geared solely to the oil which is sort of a different angle. My only question though is the specs of an unused oil may be up to par but how do they hold up after said amount of miles I think is more important.

I am having them do a TBN so that should give a little more info.

After reading this: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/do-i-need-a-tbn.php I am a little confused to be quite honest. The TBN ranges from 6-14 and the larger the number the more additives the oil has. In theory the more additives the longer it will last, correct? Sorry I'm new to the oil analysis world, have never done one and have a ton to learn. I dont mean to cause this thread to go OT so if you prefer I can ask these elementary questions in your sticky, or better yet simply start reading.

I dont claim to be an oil expert, thats why I start threads like these so I can learn more. Anyhow, that seems to be the way I understand TBN.

I'd go with X; higher TBN, higher zinc, higher flashpoint.

The point I would like to make clear is that it isn't a comparison of these two oils, necessarily. Its more about would you run these oils in your evo? So you like brand x, but the question is would you also run brand Y in your evo? why or why not?

Woops, forgot

I would run neither because the zinc levels aren't high enough for what my turbo requires.

EDIT: Can't change my vote unfortunately.

How did you figure out what zinc level your turbo requires?

Unless your turbo is a JB FP Red or Black then there is no "Requirement".

Not sure if MAP has oil requirements for their JB turbo line though. I've never seen it documented

Yes MAP has oil reqs. for their turbo.

All synthetic oils are not created equal! In fact, the majority of synthetic oils on the market seem to be more concerned with fuel efficiency and emmissions compliance than wear protection and longevity! We recommend you choose from the following motor oils based on their high ZDDP content and corresponding wear protection. We've even included a few conventional petroleum based options that can be sourced for less than $5/quart if budget is a concern. Please contact your MAP sales rep with any questions regarding motor oil weight recommendations or availability.
