FP Red vs FP Black vs CBRD BBK Full (ported)

Hey everyone I'm fairly new to the evo world. My plans are to make between 450awhp and and 500awhp. I wanna have a little lag as possible. Of the three turbos mentioned which is the best for my Evo IX SE. Thanks in advance to everyone who provides info.

You need to list your mods and what fuel you want to use.

Full bolt ons, e85 and maybe 91, 1050cc injectors, and a walbro 255 fuel pump.

you need bigger injectors and a double pumper for E85 and the turbo's listed. that walbro 255 is good for a lil over 400hp on E85, and those turbo's are good for 500-700hp on E85.

Just how important of a prioriy is it for you that the turbo have minimal lag? On a stock block, I would never go bigger than a BB Red if minimal lag is of importance. I had a JB Red and it's got big time lag. So, FP Black and even the JB Red are out.

Even the BB Red will be borderline on the lag issue. I would say: BB BBK-B, BB Green, MAP EF 2.5, BB BBK-Full, 71HTA.

The 2.5, and the 71HTA are the only two JB turbos(maybe we should include the JB Green too?) with acceptable lag that will get you up over 450 on ethanol. The hard part on most of these turbos listed will be staying up over 450 on 91.

Incorrect, a modded 255 will support around 480HP on E85... perfect for a BB Green if you can keep the torque down to satisfy the stock block...

how am i incorrect? i never a mentioned a modded wally, but if you would like to quote tom from tscompusa on his findings. yes you're correct one of his customers made 480 on E85 with a modded wally (fp red). and read the OP first post, he only has a wally 255(unmodified)

^^must we argue children? LOL. u both are correct btw, a single wally unmodified will crack into the 400's on e85, I made over 500 with a modified wally and an fp black, afr's werent happy but its possible, just depends how long u would like that pump to last. And to the OP, the FP Red is not that laggy and if ur on stock block ur gonna want that bit of laggy-ness, the way the tuner tunes the car has alot to do with spool up as well. I highly suggest TSComp, u will not b disappointed.

It takes all of 2 seconds to modify a walbro... why would he not do it if these are his goals instead of spending $500 on a double pumper ... Now if he was shooting for over 500 HP then yes double pumper is a viable soultion, or even the walbro 416... I don't need to quote TSCOMP, I have my own data...

LOL dont take it the wrong way, i agree with you i was just giving info for his mod list. i was in the same boat, i was going to modify a wally 255 w/fp red. but i had to upgrade to a double pumper for my 500+ goal.

For a stock block imo the BBK-Full is the best possible turbo for this car. I ran a BBK-Full ported for 2 years before going to a BBK-B ball-bearing (3B). For pump gas or stock block the BBK-Full is a better turbo. If you have a built motor and plan on running E85 with more than a single modded Walbro you could go to something bigger otherwise its a waste. You would be getting lots of extra lag for no reason.

Even on a built 2.0L the BBK-3B isn't ideal unless you are running enough boost to put it in it's efficiency range. For me the 3B which is slightly smaller than a BB Red really comes alive at 29+ psi. The main advantage it does have for me is the torque doesn't drop off as fast as the smaller turbo, so I can run higher rpms and still be making power giving me a wider powerband for the track.

With a modded Walbro and E85 you can easily hit your target numbers with a BBK-Full and still spool almost identical to stock.

Hey guys all the information and opinions are great so far and I'm taking them all into account. my main reason for wanting minimal lag is cause 1.) it's gonna be used on the street 2.) it's also gonna be a track car. Time attack, auto-x, and next years modified magazine tuner shoot out are my desired plans. I want snappy acceleration to make up time when exiting corners. straight line stuff is not much of a concern as corners. So after reading all these comments it seems to me that the BBK full ported would be the best turbo for the job. keep throwing me your opinions though fellas, all are appreciated
