Evo VIII water pump on a ix

So I searched through various threads on here looking for an answer for if the evo 8 water pump will work on the 9 without any issues and cannot come up with a clear answer. Some threads have said that the only differences is the mounting bracket and it will work out fine and others say that its a no go. So I am just wondering for people who have actually done this how has it held up? I would rather get a gates pump for 65 rather than 240 for OEM. Thanks in advance for the help!

I would assume it would work. The bracket bolts to the intake manifold as well as the waterpump, to hold the alternator in position. You would just be bolting it to the intake manifold stud. I think it should work.

Yes the 8 pump will work fine on a 9. You just won't use the bolt hole for the alternator bracket. Haven't had any problems with the alternator or bracket, although my gates water pump did come apart after 15k miles.

The round flange that the water pump pulley bolts to came off the end of the water pump shaft. Really weird failure, the water pump wasn't locked up and rotated fine, the pulley with the flange attached just worked its way right off the shaft. I highly doubt its a common failure but I went ahead and got a new OEM pump anyways.
