MR 6-speed W6MAA - what's more important when filling tranny?
Synopsis - what is more important when filling the 6-speed: putting the exact specified amount of oil in, or having the oil trickle out the fill hole? In other words, is it better to have a little extra oil in there, or better to have the exact amount?
Longer version - I'm just finishing up a drivetrain fluid change on my IX MR (21k miles). With the vehicle perfectly level (I checked by putting a long bubble level on the frame) I had no trouble adding the correct amount of Diaqueen LSD to the rear end and transfer case, but the 6-speed refill with Diaqueen Super-Multi threw me a curve ball. The FSM says 2.3 quarts / 4.6 pints / 2.176 liters / 2176 milliliters. I put in exactly 2200 ml expecting the remainder to come back out when I removed the nylon hose barb from the fill hole but nothing happened! I put in another 100 ml and still no drizzle. So there is now exactly 2300 ml of oil in the trans - is this TOO full or should I keep filling until I get backwash?
Just want to make sure I give this tranny the protection it needs to survive
Thanks!

Ive replaced and topped off drivetrain fluids on quite a few cars of different brands and never had an issue doing them the same way-- top them off until it drizzles out. I don't think you will hurt anything if they happened to be overfilled just a bit. Hell, TRE has a sight glass option for the rear diff and that is supposed to increase the fluid level in it without issues. Like I said though, no worries if it happens to be overfilled only a little.

The presence of the hose barb in the fill hole raises the level of the hole by about 4.7 mm - that is probably why it's not drizzling. I'm gonna put 100 ml more in and expect to see some drainage after removing the hose barb.
It doesn't take that many extra ml to start making a big difference in "fullness":
2176 ml = 100% full according to FSM
2300 ml = 106%
2400 ml = 110%
2500 ml = 115%
2600 ml = 119%
YUP! Pulled the hose barb out and lost about 80-100ml. Glad to get the fluid changes out of the way. The rear end was about 1/2 cup low from the factory!
