The shifter cable gets stretched out which causes problems with shifting. It happened to me and the hardest part about changing the cables was lining up the bolts on the firewall that hold the cable grommet.

You got a 6 or 5 speed?

Bad shifter cable will feel spongy when trying to go to a gear and usually is with 1st , 3rd and 5th , the top gears
