Evo 8 with MAP EF2.5

Went to MAP yesterday and checked out the new shop and holy shiiit, its baller. Love everything about it. I talked with the Dan and Chris Carey about building me an EF2.5 and they said they would so its on!!! I'm ditching the EF3 in hopes of having a lot better spool and just as good up top with this new turbo. Ive been hoping for something like this for quite sometime, ever since I took the EF3 out for the first time it just wasnt quite the same. I absolutely love the EF3 but on a stock 2.0 it wasnt quite for me (full spool was around 4400) It has just nasty power up top. But I personally like quick nasty torque. Its basically going to be the same thing as the EF2.5 for the Evo X. They said it'll be about 6 weeks before its ready to go. So I'm excited as hell for this turbo to get finished up and get it tuned

A big thanks to MAP for doing something like this even though they dont offer it for the 8/9s....yet. I think this turbo will turn into a big seller once they get some results and I couldnt be happier being the first one? not sure on that but hey its going to be a fun ride regardless.

This turbo will be paired with the MAP Short Runner and MAP Rev2 Intake Manifold along with the listed mods in my sig.

Pictures and Dyno Results will be posted when complete. Thanks for looking evom

EF2.5 @ 31psi

EF2.5 @ 29psi (where we left car at)

EF2.5 vs EF3 (also this graph reads low from the EF3, I had a boost leak that day, we ended up at 425/360, still shows the comparisons) I'll have to get Ron to post an overlay of the EF2.5 vs EF2. I felt bad I was printing off so many graphs.

Moved and cleaned. Rather than being *********, use the report button. Simple as that.

OP - Sounds like you'll have a great setup and I'm sure you'll love it

nice....

I have been researching turbos to get rid of my very "old" orginial FP Green (20G9LT). I have started buying the parts, i.e., converting to speed density and E85, but I have been stuck with turbo selection...I have been going back and forth with whether or not I was goign to drop the cash for the CBRD BBK-B-BB, but it is very expensive...still not sold yet, but please keep me posted as to your results with this turbo...

Thanks man and good luck

Have they estimated how this will compare to say, an FP Green HTA 73 or BBK Full?

Are u able to let us know what they charge for the 2.5 or should we just wait? Hopefully they release it for the 8/9.

Well from what I'm understanding and surely hoping for is better spool than the green. Its going to use the EF3 compressor wheel so it will have plenty of power up top too. I personally havent seen many bbk's in my area so I never looked into them much. All I know is that they're pretty solid turbos

MAP is saying about 500whp (E85) on their dynojet. Possibly even 525whp on E85 of course.

If youre interested in the 2.5 I would contact them and see exactly what the future plans are for the turbo. Drew Reget would be the guy to talk to on that, hes fully in the loop with my build.

So the 2.5 is supposed to make as much power as the 3, but with the spool of a 2? Why doesn't MAP just put the new wheel in all of the EF3s then?

Sounds like a winning combination to me, my friend.

I will sign up for this if they're really releasing it next month. Put me down as #2 to run it. I'll tune it and virtual dyno it as soon as I get it vs stock Evo 8 10.5 on E85.

It will not make as much power as the EF3, it will fall somewhere between the EF2 and EF3 both in regards to spool and power output.

There is always a trade off between power output up top and spool characteristics. Boost is a byproduct of turbine shaft speed...and the arms used to apply those speeds...the size of the wheel receiving the exhaust flow will dictate overall shaft speed capabilities...SO using the smaller turbine wheel will allow for quicker spool, BUT that wheel is limited to what it can achieve, in terms of speed, up top.

What's this all translate to? It means when you pair the larger EF3 sized comp wheel to the EF2 sized turbine, you get a faster spooling turbo than the EF3 but the turbine itself isn't capable of generating the shaft speed that the EF3 turbine is, thereby limiting the top end power output overall. It's basically our attempt to fill a small void in the turbo lineup for everyone...based primarily on feedback. We will not be dropping the EF2 OR the EF3 or replacing anything...simply this option is intended as an enhancement to our lineup.

Pricing has already been set:

EVO X EF2.5 MSRP $1639.99
3" Anti-surge Compressor Housing Upgrade $60
Turbine Housing Porting $95
Compressor Housing Porting $50
Thermal Coating $65

We are already in production with these bad boys...feel free to PM me with interest! I am happy to help and answer any questions you might have!

Tell you what, if you guys generate enough interest...I'll do a group buy in line with the one we ran for the EVO X 2.5 release. I think we set the threshold at quantity 10 and it filled up SUPER quick.
