Crank walk
Crank walk
My 2005 Evo 8 rs has crank walked horribly trashing the front thrust washer in the process and the crank is still smooth but wore slightly to a concave shape barely noticeable. I can't feel any grooves with my fingernail on the crank where it was touching the thrust washer but I can tell it is slightly concave, but there is no gaulding or hot spots but def miss shaped!! What is my best course of action for this issue?? Please advise!

Look for a used, good condition OEM crank Your block needs to be inspected by a machine shop to ensure the bores are rounded and doesn't need line honing. Please don't be cheap, or you'll end up paying twice.
So I basically need a good crank and bearings assuming the block isn't damaged as well? I might as well just find a complete good short block so if anybody has one for sale I am über interested please contact me on here or by phone or text at 717-586-7053 name is andrew
Have to drained the oil and drop the pan to look for metal shavings? If there are any, you head needs a good cleaning, oil filter housing cleaned, and inspect and possibly replace front cover/oil pump also.
I did drain the oil and drop the pan, there was metallic type material in the oil but I put a big magnet in the oil and nothing stuck to it whatsoever. Possibly just all carbon and lead from the thrust bearings
Symptoms:
Car was stalling on turns and you could hear engine tone change slightly at idle when clutch is pressed. I'm assuming the Crank Angle trigger wheel is hittin the pickup.
I think my crankwalk was caused by the previous owner installing a heavy PP clutch and not adjusting it correctly, causing an over stroke of the release bearing. This is my best guess. Car only has 63k miles on it too.
I bought another crank just in case I needed it. I just haven't had time to tear it apart and fully inspect everything. I've drained the oil and poured it through a coffee filter to check for particles and cut the oil filter open. There were no metal flakes at all however if you look real closely with a magnifying glass you can sort of see a pearly substance in the coffer filter and oil filter material. I can't verify that it's actually bearing material or not. All i know is I can clearly SEE the crank endplay with my naked eye.
I'm hoping for the best... meaning just need a new crank and thrust washer and thorough cleaning.
