Clutch disk size 4 vs. 8
Clutch disk size 4 vs. 8
My clutch showed the first signs of slipping the last 2 nights so I've started my research and have been looking for and reading as much information as I can.
I know it's been covered a few times both on here and lancerregister that you can use the evo 7,8,9 pressure plate and clutch as long as you use the respective flywheel.
Most forum responses just state that the 7,8,9 disk is bigger, but there is one post here on evom that states the 4 disk is 240mm and the 8 disk is 280mm.
However, I've been looking through multiple companies pages as well as ebay pages and I've noticed that clutch kits that are evo 4,5,6 specific come with a disk that is 240mm in diameter. The odd part and the reason for this post is that all of the clutch kits that are evo 7,8,9 specific also say the clutch disk is 240mm in diameter.
Unless i'm missing something and the 4,5,6 disk is not actually 240mm, logically a 7,8,9 disk should work fine.
I'm located in Canada and am looking to replace my stock kit with an Exedy Stage 1 kit. It's easier to get the "stage 1" kit from Exedy for an evo 8 in North America.
Thanks in advance for any help/clarification!

I dont know the exact size difference, but there is a slight difference. The 7/8/9 clutch is bigger, as is the flywheel. To use a 7/8/9 clutch in a 4/5/6 you need the flywheel as well from a 7/8/9.
Well I believe I answered my own question. The problem is, I was looking for sizes going off of this link:

The user must have been pulling numbers out of you know where.
After looking on Exedy Europe's website, it's pretty clear that the Evo 4 has a disk size of 230mm and the evo 8 has a disk size of 240. This makes more sense:

The confusion was also being fueled by false information on websites and ebay pages. There are quite a few vendors that are advertising 240mm disks as evo 4,5,6 disks. Some of them include the appropriate flywheel. Yes, with the appropriate flywheel that clutch would fit the evo 4,5,6 but you would still have to shave down the dowel. The ones without flywheels included would definitely not fit.
Technically speaking, anything with a 240mm disk is not an evo 4,5,6 clutch even though they are being advertised as so.

So pick up any Evo 8 clutch and to save a few bucks, pick up a used OEM Evo 8 flywheel. Resurfacing is inexpensive, and will get you back on the road cheaper.
One of the vendors on U.S. Ebay does provide the oem replacement for the 4/5/6 which is 230mm. I'm not looking to make the car any more powerful than it already is with an intake and open exhaust.
The clutch will be about 290 shipped to Canada and I'll just get my oem flywheel resurfaced!
