TITANIUM axle castle nuts and lock washers.

UPDATE post #46. they have arrived.

ok guys i have a company making me Titanium axle castle nuts and lock washers. i sent in a castle nut and lock washer to be mocked up and i got the drawings the other day which i approved so production can begin when i send in my payment. i am going to get right to the point. they are exactly like stock just titanium and they will be about 50% lighter then stock and look bad ***. if my scale is correct all 4 OEM nuts and washers weighed 1lb. in Ti they will be approx 1/2lb which is rotational so its a little added bonus. i have a few people already on the list so i figured i would make a thread for others who may be interested. this is a one run deal. these are not for everyone which i know. so serious people only please. the castle nut and lock washer will cost 40.00 per axle. ''160.00 total P/S''. there will be a special coating applied to make each piece look more professional and help with any possible galling or corrosion issues which should not be an issue anyways but anti gall lube is recommended. the build time will be 5-6 weeks AFTER i send them a payment. i will leave this thread open to anyone for 2 or 3 weeks and then place my order. since i am the one fronting the money for all of them i want a 50% deposit which will be non refundable unless something comes up with the company making them. then i will issue everyone there money back. currently i have 5 people who paid and understand the terms. so if your like us and want every weight savings bit you can get then PM me and i will give you my PayPal info and add you to the list.

im not coloring them. i can ask about it but my guess is i would need to buy a bunch in each color to make it worth while which i can not afford to do. but i will ask. the worst they can say is no.

As far as I have seen nothing. As long as you do not use power tools or over trq the hardware. Also use a proper anti galling lube.

Hard to jump on board without knowing the exact weight reduction.

This also concerns me. Is there a precedent for this? I've never read or heard of any vehicle using titanium version of this hardware with steel axles. If I know there will be no issues, I'll put a deposit down immediately. I don't want any fancy coloring either.

I'm having trouble seeing the cost/benefit ratio here. Personally it sounds like a waste of money for parts that won't net you anything. When are you going to show off you axle and castle nuts

I do not anticipate galvanic cell corrosion is possible in this situation. Ti reacts with air to oxidize and form an inert layer around the metal. There is no electrolyte to complete the cell except when it is wet.

In terms of oxidation, see previous statement for inert layer.

I am unaware of any corrosion mechanisms that would cause this to be a bad idea.
