built motor shelf life
built motor shelf life
I received my built long block in November and was planning to install it in January but parts have been on back order for such a long time that I was unable to install it. The latest I would be able to install it is end of May early June. Does this seem like to long of a wait? Motor is stored in a low humidity room temp environment. Should I put some oil in the cylinders and rotate the motor every now and then? Pointers and suggestions would be much appreciated.
I was told the motor was primed when it was built at English Racing. I will double check and do it again before the motor is started. Any other precautions I should take if the motor will be sitting this long?
Wd40 or a little break in oil down the spark plug holes, let it sit for some time, they turn the crank. You want to be sure the Rings stay attached to the Pistons, I have heard of people's rings "stickibg/rusting" to the cylinder walls since they are both raw metal. Especially of the motor hasn't been somewhere temperature controlled where moisture could condense.
