Yes they're compatible but I believe you'll need to alter you MAF scaling or else your AFRs will go richer if you install an Evo 8 MAF on to an Evo 9, and it will go leaner if you perform the opposite.

An evo 8 MAF sensor will fit your evo 9 but you should be more concerned about the MAF scalings because of the alterations that will occur from the swap.

So install it then get a tune and you'll be fine.

Evo 7/8/9 all have the same MAF sensor & the same scaling, you don't need to alter anything.

No that is incorrect. A tune is a must if not using the same MAF sensor as the one that came from the factory.

I don't know if this doesn't apply to JDM models, but I'm sure a tune is a must when changing MAF sensors with USDM models.

MAF scalings from both models differ as well which causes the rich / lean issues once the sensor has been replaced.

No that IS correct actually. All usdm Evo 8 and 9 models run the 399 MAF. 2003 2004 2005 2006 = 399. Can't speak for jdm though but usdm all have the same ones.

So what you're saying is there's no need to change your MAF scalings?

EDIT: I remembered once reading a thread about this and luckily I found it:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...djustment.html

Read the second post along with others if you feel like it, and read this thread if you want:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...evo-9-maf.html

Notice how there's a trend from the responses?

If you're swapping a 399 to another 399 then no it is the same thing and the same scaling and all usdm Evo 8 and 9 models have the 399 Maf. If yours doesn't say 399 then its not a usdm Evo Maf.

If you put a cone filter on and a different intake "pipe" thats when it is a good idea to rescale the Maf though. But just changing the sensor itself doesn't require any altering to the Maf scaling raw hertz table.

I think you're confusing the Rom scaling with the sensor itself. The Rom scalings on different roms are different because the 8's had smaller turbos and other slight differences thus changing the flow patterns of the sensor. If you swap out the 399 Maf from an Evo 8 to an Evo 9 or visa versa the Rom doesn't change. It's still going to interpret the signal the same way and use that signal for that particular cars set up stock. Different Evo models and hence different roms might scale that sensor differently but the sensor itself doesn't change at all. That guy the said his afr changed when he swapped out mafs either didn't replace it with another 399 or he is swapping between to different 399's that are dirty and used and not giving a proper and equal reading.
