how to baffle an oil pan, anyone have pics?
anyone have data that actually shows this works? or even a theory why it would work?
I am modding my early evo for better oil pickup. I cut on old oil pan out on the bottom. wanted to see how close the oil pickup gets to bottom of pan. learned something else I wasnt expecting. if my theory is right I think adding this "well" might actually hurt oil pickup. I will have pictures of everything in a week or so. but basically what I found was the pickup is not centered in the pan at all. it favors one side. I think the oil pan acts like a swirl pot. and its better to have pickup near an outside edge. if oil is swirling during pick-up then the middle of pan will have least volume available for pickup.
if you look at top of oil pan the circle that the pickup goes through in pretty much centered in the pan. its not until you cut the bottom off would you realize the pickup itself is not at all centered in that circle.

That's a good thread for ideas as well, I just can't believe that no one has data before and after attempting to baffle the stock pan to see if it worked any better. The only info I've seen is on buschurs website stating the oil pressure is better, and info on the AMS pan, which frankly, is out of what I wanted to pay to ensure I have adequate oil pickup.
The more and more I think about this, I may just stick with my kiggly hla, fill 1/2 quart over, and use the English Racing oil pump gear to for my oiling mods. I'd love to mod the pan and feel better about it, but there isn't enough data out there to justify me trying something, only to have it fail and then have to order another pan, or maybe even more.
